Is 304 stainless steel the same as food grade 304 stainless steel?

1
304, it’s a brand of stainless steel, American name. Its Chinese brand name is 06Cr19Ni10, which is very complicated and difficult to read, so we prefer to call it “304 stainless steel”.
Is 304 stainless steel the same as food grade 304 stainless steel? Not the same! Food grade and brand, belong to two systems, but there are countless links. Like a man who can be both a man and a father — must a man be a father? Not necessarily.
2
Stainless steel field is the same, the brand determines the corrosion resistance of stainless steel. Whether it is food grade, in addition to the corrosion resistance of stainless steel requirements, but also on lead, chromium, nickel, cadmium, arsenic five heavy metal precipitation indicators have requirements.
Later, it was found that the stainless steel that can meet the requirements of heavy metal precipitation can meet the requirements of the brand. So in the national standard GB9684-2011 “national food safety standards Requirement of stainless steel products, is cancelled, only require heavy metal deposition (changed another way, but is actually and JiuGuo mark almost), so today’s used stainless steel tableware, it is wrong to brand requirements, but at the same time, as long as it is able to achieve food grade, Must be able to achieve at least 304 stainless steel level.
3
Now, food grade 304 stainless steel is 304 stainless steel to meet the standard of heavy metal precipitation; And ordinary 304 stainless steel, is not tested by GB 9684.
The name of the old NATIONAL standard GB 9684 is the National Standard for Food Safety stainless Steel Products. This national standard has been replaced in 2017 by GB 4806.9-2016 National Standard for Food Safety metallic Materials and Products used in Food Contact (this new standard combines the original two national standards applicable to stainless steel (GB 9684) and aluminum (GB 11333)).
4
That is to say, food grade stainless steel is in line with the national mandatory standard GB4806.9-2016 “Food safety national standard food contact with metal materials and products” stainless steel.
Regarding stainless steel tableware, the new NATIONAL standard (GB 4806.9) stipulates:
4.1.3 Stainless steel utensil containers should be made of austenitic stainless steel, austenitic ferritic stainless steel, ferritic stainless steel and other stainless steel materials;
In this NATIONAL standard, the provision of a migration test, put stainless steel materials into a simulated food solution (generally acidic solution) for immersion, after reaching the specified time test whether there are certain elements in the solution, as shown in the following table
5
As can be seen from the table, harmful elements include arsenic, cadmium, lead, chromium, nickel and other five elements, as long as the five elements in the test solution do not exceed the specified value in the table, you can declare that this batch of material is food grade stainless steel.
We are in the purchase of tableware (actually said “tableware” is not quite standard, should be “stainless steel contact food”), should mainly see its packaging has “GB4806.9-2016″ words, only through the detection of products, we can rest assured to buy.
6
By the way: some stainless steel products will play a “food grade 304″ steel seal, in fact, we know a little brain, “304″ itself is not the Chinese name, how could this seal be the authority of the certification mark?
Such labeling is still an unofficial product, and there is no official “labeling” in the Standard. Only section 4 “Other” refers to labeling in the original text. 4.1: “Food contact” shall be labeled on the product or minimum sales package. There are no instructions or additional elements.
So whether or not there is this stamp, we should not judge the quality of stainless steel in turn. Still that sentence, see whether there is “GB4806.9-2016″ on the package, just the most reliable.
7
Food grade stainless steel mainly has 304 stainless steel and 316 stainless steel
1. 304 stainless steel can resist the corrosion and oxidation of chemical substances. The standard material of stainless steel pressure cooker is above 304. 2, 316 stainless steel is better, contains 10% nickel, more corrosion resistance, widely used in medical, no metal ions precipitation, very safe
8
Food grade 304 and SUS304 stainless steel difference
SUS304 refers to 304 stainless steel. SUS is a Japanese material standard, 304 stainless steel is produced in accordance with the American ASTM standard of a brand of stainless steel. 304 is equivalent to China’s 06Cr19Ni10 stainless steel, Japan also cited the United States of the name, called it: SUS304. SUS304 is not necessarily food grade stainless steel, this is just a Japanese label.
9
The so-called “food grade”, “aviation grade”, “medical grade” or similar words, are corresponding to the national standards, just look at the steel and can not determine this is “XX grade” such as 304 stainless steel only represents the steel in line with the performance of the 304 stainless steel standard in the national standard, Only in line with the national standard (GB 4806.9-2016 National Food Safety standards for food contact metal materials and products) 304 stainless steel is the real “food grade” stainless steel.
Third, even if the raw materials use the real food grade stainless steel, but the final product can reach the “food grade” still need to see the processing level and external materials, only all in line with the national standards of the product is safe “food grade” stainless steel products.
10
In addition, the grade of 304 stainless steel to be distinguished, because according to the grade/origin/according to the different standards, the specific material composition and physical properties are changed.
X5crni18-10 — International standard (Comparison Table of stainless Steel brands in the world)
304/S30400 — American Standard (ASTM Standard ASTM A312 Stainless Steel Tube Chinese version)
SUS304 — JIS G3459 Stainless Steel tubes
06Cr19Ni10 — GB/T 20878-2007 Stainless steel and heat resistant steel grades and chemical composition
